Friday Flashback: Pulling Taffy

This is my Great Grandpa Ward Willard Reynolds. He loved to pull taffy. This picture was taken sometime around 1983 or 84 (a good guess from my mom.) My Grandpa would make taffy and take a bag around and pass it out to the neighborhood kids and also to ball games or any other fun gathering.
One of my favorite stories of my Grandpa: One day the neighborhood kids came to his house to see if he had any taffy. They found him laying on the floor in the kitchen and called the ambulance because they thought he was dead. It just so happened that it was a hot day and the kitchen floor was a nice cool spot so he decided to lay on it to take a nap. I can just picture him laying on the floor and it has always been funny to me.
My Grandpa lived to be 103 years old and I can remember visiting him just a little bit. He is definitely one ancestor I will love to get to know better in Heaven!
Some other fun facts about my Grandpa:
☞He walked miles and miles, he even went through a time when he walked up the Ashton hill everyday.
☞When he was 90 years old he had a lady help him get the stuff ready to tie somewhere around 26 quilts for each one of his grandchildren. My moms quilt is made of fabric that looks like old drapes probably from the flea market.
☞When he was older he would be so cold even in the summer that sometimes he would get his coat on and sit in the hot car.
It was fun hearing all these things from my mom. She loved her Grandpa and loved to sit and listen to all his stories which he often told around the dinner table on Sundays.

I did enjoy your post. I've always loved this picture. I think it's pretty special that we have some solid memories of a great grandparent. That's one of the reasons I'm so happy your girls love their pappa greats so much! Thanks for the walk down memory lane. (I think next weeks flashback Friday should involve a high school dance picture. Yes?):)
